4 Ways Homeowners Can End Up In The News

If you own a home you are already very well aware of all of the challenges you face on the regular. If you are thinking about buying a home and becoming a first time homeowner, you should prepare yourself for all of the stresses to come! Of course in the end it’s all worth it because owning your own home is the biggest goal many people have in life and it can be very rewarding. Sometimes homeowners even do extraordinary things which cause them to end up making headlines in the local or national news!

Here are 4 ways homeowners can end up in the news.

Extreme Renovations

One way to end up in the news for a happier reason is if you buy a fixer-upper and put time, effort, and money into extreme renovations on it to make it into something much nicer. Making ground improvements and deepening your foundation is the first step in making sure that your newly renovated home is built to last. Replacing the roof, walls, and other parts of the home that have seen better days will also help your renovations to turn out well. Lastly, put personal beautifying touches to the home via landscaping and interior design and the finished product will be so impressive that you just may end up on the news.

Break-ins Or Robberies

Unfortunately, homeowners do not always end up in the news because of something positive. Break-ins, robberies, and even murders are pretty common in many areas. This is definitely not a reason that you want to end up on the news for, so luckily there are things you can do to protect yourself.

Always lock your home, hide the keys/only give them to select people that you absolutely trust, be aware of your surroundings so that you’ll notice if anything is amiss i.e. a strange car parked outside watching your home, and install cameras or an alarm system, or both!

Businesses

If you own a business and run it out of your home and your business becomes noteworthy for any reason, you could definitely end up in the news! Just make sure that you are comfortable with the public knowing that your business is also your place of residence if you plan on doing an interview.

Christmas Decorations

People seem to love holiday decorations, especially the lights people commonly adorn their houses with during Christmastime. Many towns and cities have yearly competitions and give out prizes for the best light displays, and often the most decorated neighborhoods end up on the news. If you put a lot of effort into your Christmas decor, don’t be surprised to see your own house on the nightly news!

The possibility of ending up in the news is just one more thing on the long list of stuff you have to think about as a homeowner. But hopefully if you do it will be for a positive reason and at least after reading this list you’ll be well prepared.
