For all you new Seahawks looking to for a fun, exciting way to spend your extra time here at SMCM, look no further than the HAWK Radio!
St. Mary’s College’s official student-run radio station is gearing up for another great year, and as always, we’re looking for new DJs. What do you need to be a HAWK DJ? All it takes is a passion for music and a little spare time and you can have your own radio show. Not into music? No worries, because the HAWK is always looking for awesome talk radio shows too. All of our shows are student-run, which means you have the freedom to play or talk about whatever you want on your show (just keep it appropriate, please!). Our past DJs have done everything from rock, country, hip-hop, or folk shows to themed music hours, vinyl-only programs, and diversity talk shows. The only limits to what you can do are your own creativity.
This is a particularly exciting year to join the HAWK because we have a lot of dedicated people who have been working very hard this past year and over the summer to make improvements to the station. We have recently installed brand new equipment, we are constantly expanding our music library, technological problems that plagued us in the past have been corrected, and we are working hard on a brand-new, state-of-the-art, super sexy web site. We’ve also started to expand our programming to include radio-sponsored live performances – last spring the first ever radio-sponsored performance, featuring Rob Fahey of the Ravyns, took place and we are looking forward to more this year.
While our website is still under construction, we expect to have it up and running by the start of this year. The HAWK Radio is an internet-based radio station, which means that anyone anywhere can tune in – all you need is a computer with web access. So, if you are interested in being a part of one of SMCM’s most fun clubs, check out the HAWK Radio. We will have a table at the club fair where you can sign-up, but if you miss us there feel free to contact the president, Matt Anthony (firstname.lastname@example.org) or vice-president, Pippa Friedman (email@example.com) and we will make sure you don’t miss out. Also, feel free to check out the radio station, which is located across from The Point News office in the SGA club room at the campus center. You won’t be able to enter without authorization, but there is a window which will allow you to see what the station is like inside. And be sure to find our page on Facebook as well (https://www.facebook.com/#!/seahawkradio).
