Last fall, Johns Hopkins University’s student newspaper, The Johns Hopkins News-letter, was the center of a debate concerning two articles that were blatantly offensive, even misogynistic.

Last week, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case Snyder v Phelps et al., a case in which the respondent, Fred Phelps, organized members of the Westboro Baptist Church to protest the 2006 funeral of Matthew Snyder, a US Marine killed in a Humvee accident in Iraq.

I think it goes without saying that the Westboro Baptist Church may be one of the most bigoted, ignorant, and hateful groups to ever figure out how to glue a piece of wood to poster board.
