April is National Volunteer Month, and SMCM Service and Social Change is doing a “social media blast” to inform the college about upcoming service events. They were able to raise over $5,600 from the Christmas in April Auction that will be used for the build on April 29. Christmas in April is a local charity that partners with the community and “rehabilitates the homes of low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly and disabled, so that they may live in warmth, safety, and independence.”

From April 24-28 there will also be a school supply drive, and bins will be available around campus for donations. The supplies will be sent to students at George Washington Carver Elementary School.

There are plenty of ways to get involved before the end of the semester. Be sure to check their Facebook page (SMCM Service & Social Change) for more information about April service events as well as other volunteering opportunities on campus.
