News-in-Brief: Decision Made in the Search for Associate Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion

The search is over. Dr. Kortet Mensah will become the Associate Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion. The process will be officially completed on November 28th, 2016 when Dr. Mensah has her first day here, at St. Mary’s College. The announcement was made by President Tuajuanda Jordan via All-Student email on October 21. The position is part of the President’s cabinet; Dr. Mensah will be responsible for coordinating efforts to establish excellence in Inclusion, Diversity and Equity throughout the St. Mary’s community. She was selected out of four total candidates: Dr. Sybol Anderson—currently an Associate Professor of Philosophy at SMCM, Dr. Ande Diaz, and Dr. Idella Glenn. The need for the position came after recent tragedies in Orlando, Baton Rouge, Dallas, overseas in Turkey and France, as well as the disturbing events on our own campus. The Point News will conduct a more formal interview with Dr. Mensah once she is settled on campus.
